The undefeated Staples Wreckers will clash with the Ridgefield Tigers for the CIAC Class L championship in an all-FCIAC state final at 7 p.m., Thursday, at Shelton High School.
The top-seeded Wreckers are 24-0 this season and have beaten Ridgefield three times this season, including for the FCIAC crown in May. Staples reached the Class L final by defeated No. 16 Xavier and No. 8 Trumbull, both 3-0, and No. 4 East Hartford 3-1.
Against East Hartford, Staples lost the first set but came back to win 17-25, 25-10, 25-11, 25-23.
Ridgefield is the No. 3 seed in Class L and owns a 22-3 mark this year. The Tigers No. 14 NFA 3-0 in the opening round, and in the quarterfinals, eliminated fellow FCIAC team Darien 3-1 in a rematch of last year’s conference and state finals.
In Monday’s semifinals, the Tigers handed Newtown its only loss of the season, 3-0, sweeping the sets 25-13, 25-20, 25-18.
