It was the spring of 2016, the end of the high school boys track and field season to be exact, and New Canaan head coach Bill Martin was wrapping up with his team when he noticed a freshman runner who had yet to make an impact with the program.
“The season’s over, I’m saying good-bye to everybody, and hanging on my hip is this kid Andrew,” Martin said. “I asked him ‘what’s up, Andrew?’”
The response spoke volumes.
“Coach, I want to be better,” the young runner said. “What can I do?”
