For the New Canaan boys ice hockey team, patience was truly a virtue on Monday.
Delivering a cool and collected performance, the Rams blew open a close game with two goals in the final 3:15 and defeated the Fairfield co-op team, 3-0, at the Darien Ice House.
The Rams controlled the pace of play and dominated territorially, but only held a one-goal lead through two periods. They kept the play steady to get the win.
“For us, it’s about being patient,” New Canaan head coach Clark Jones said. “We finally got one in the second and then we’re up 1-0, so let’s continue to play a simple, fast brand of hockey and not take big risks, and that’s what we did. This year at times, we’ve been impatient when the puck isn’t going in right away, but they didn’t do that today.”
