Five players from the FCIAC were among the 14 players statewide who were selected to the Division I First Team when the six 2020-21 CHSCA All-State Boys Hockey Teams were released on March 30.
The Connecticut High School Coaches Association selected an all-state first team and all-state second team for Division I, Division II and Division III. The FCIAC was well represented as a combined 21 conference players earned all-state recognition.
Senior defenseman Luke Johnston and senior forward Sam Erickson of Darien, senior defenseman Sam Swanson of the Fairfield cooperative team, Ridgefield’s senior forward Will Stewart and Greenwich’s junior goalie Charlie Zolin were those five conference players chosen to the Division I First Team. Johnston and Swanson were both on the Division I Second Team last year when they were juniors.
There were varying totals of players on each of the six teams chosen, ranging anywhere from nine players on the Division I Second Team to 16 players on the Division II First Team.
Fairfield forwards Rhys Davies and Finn Hoey were the two conference players who made the Division I All-State Second Team which included five forwards, two goalies and a pair of defensemen.
The Division II All-State First Team consisted of two goalies, four defensemen and 10 forwards. The three FCIAC players on that team were forwards Owen Finnegan and Jack McLean of Trumbull and Tucker Healy from the Westhill/Stamford cooperative program.
Trumbull defensemen Zach Jager and Josh Liebowitz along with Westhill/Stamford forward Jason Bacco were the three FCIAC players among the 13 total players chosen to the Division II All-State Second Team.
Defenseman Owen Sherman and forward Victor Sarrazin of Staples and McMahon/Norwalk forward Finn Cullen were the conference players among the 14 total players chosen to the Division III All-State First Team.
The five FCIAC players who made up one third of the 15-player Division III All-State Second Team included goalie Aaron Kail and forward Zachary Schwartz of Staples, defenseman Ryan Sorbo and forward Robert Jackson-Kelly of Wilton, and McMahon/Norwalk defenseman Nat Gibson.
The Connecticut High School Coaches Association bestowed all-state status to 81 total players statewide, including the 21 players from the FCIAC.
