WESTPORT — At the Staples football team’s first OTA last month, coach Adam Behrends wore a hat with the word “state” in all caps on it. Behrends said they were left as talismen on the buses for his staff and the players on the Staples football team before they departed last December for the Class LL championship game against West Haven.
